Kicking Off Our Cocktail Recipe Posts:

The Summer Berry Old Fashioned

(and a simple syrup to accompany)

Part of the fun of going out for a night on the town is taste testing delicious craft cocktails.  Mixology is a science of its own, and finding the perfect blend of syrups, bitters, and liquor can be daunting.  All the same – there’s certainly something great about knowing how to wow your friends (or your own tastebuds) using ingredients you’ve assembled or made at home.  With the help of our bartender David, we’ve been working on a few fun recipes to help you craft the perfect cocktail at home.  First up, we have the Summer Berry Old Fashioned, crafted using home-made Summer Berry Simple Syrup.

Preparing a Simple Syrup

A fun and easy way to up your at home cocktail game is by making and infusing your own simple syrups. You’ll combine equal amounts of sugar and water to a sauce pan and bring it to a rolling simmer, stirring frequently until the sugar is dissolved.  Once dissolved, remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. It’s that simple!

From here you can let your creativity take over – if your cocktail recipe calls for something “special,” you don’t have to buy it – you can make it!

For our Summer Berry Old Fashioned we created a Summer Berry Simple which has strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.
